Recycle Defenders

Goal:
A video campaign for sustainability. I was tasked to create an informative yet fun and “non-preachy” video centered around bringing awareness of the importance of single-stream recycling and waste contamination at Gulfstream Aerospace facilities for employees.
Overview:
This project theme was “Retro Video Game”. I was very excited about coming up with this theme. It made the project so much fun to plan and work on and even more excited for seeing the project evolve through the process and seeing it go from idea to final execution.
I began with research and inspiration, developing the story and plot of the video game animations, the script was then created. Then storyboarding and asset creation. I eventually came up with the Recycle Defenders title because I wanted something that sound like a retro arcade/video game. At first I thought Recycle Invaders but that did not sound pro-recycling, then “Defenders” popped into my mind, thus the title being born. Next I began creating the motion graphic animations, and then planning for the live action portion. Last was the video project.
Inspiration:
The company’s internal campaign message of “Sustainability Starts With Us” was a main inspiration. Creating a video centered on that message was important to me.
This Coca-Cola sustainability ad was a big inspiration for this project. My video project is very different, sure, but this video coincides with my goal of creating a fun and “non-preachy” video centered on sustainability. Classic and retro video games like Super Mario Bros., Sonic, Streets of Rage 2, etc video games I grew up on was inspiration to my graphics.
